The word "cape" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used as a noun meaning a sleeveless outer garment that is open in the front and usually has a hood, or it can be used as a verb meaning to cover or protect something. For example, "She wore a red cape to the costume party" or "The fire was quickly capeed by the firefighters."
