In addition to being used for extraordinarily thin, bright flat-panel displays, the QD-OLEDs also may be used in a variety of other applications; to calibrate wavelengths for scientific purposes, generate wavelengths visible only to robot eyes or "miniaturize scientific equipment in ways we haven't yet imagined," Bawendi said.
CD spectra from 190 260 nm of D-4F and OxP-11D were examined in different solution environments using a JASCO 715 spectropolarimeter (Jasco Inc., Easton, MD) that was calibrated for wavelength and optical rotation with 10-camphorsulphonic acid [65], [66].
CD spectra from 185 260 nm of GRFN-1 were examined in different solution environments using a JASCO 720 spectropolarimeter (Jasco, Easton, MD) calibrated for wavelength and optical rotation with 10-camphorsulphonic acid [40], [41].
CD spectra (185 260 nm) were also made for Mini-B in 4∶6 v∶v TFE:10 mM phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) using a JASCO 715 spectropolarimeter (Jasco Inc., Easton, MD) fitted with a thermoelectric temperature controller and calibrated for wavelength and optical rotation using -10-camphorsulphonic acid [64].
The locations of these lines were used to calibrate the wavelength axis.
To correct for spectral image curvature and to calibrate the wavelength axis reference images of neon and krypton gas discharge lamps were used.
These spectra have been wavelength calibrated and sky subtracted.
If the distance between the mirrors is precisely calibrated to the wavelength of the light, Vuletić explains, "Basically, a very large field builds up inside the cavity that cancels the field coming back and goes in the forward direction". In other words, the mirrors become transparent to light of the right wavelength.
A hybrid pixel detector PILATUS 2 M (Dectris) was used with the wavelength calibrated to 0.70065 Å, and a sample-to-detector distance of 444 mm.
The spectrograph was wavelength calibrated daily against the green and yellow-doublet mercury lines.
