The use of one scaling factor may not be appropriate, for the following reasons: (1) the rCBV can be overestimated or underestimated, depending on the recirculation patterns in the arterial and tissue voxels, and (2) the rCBF is generally underestimated using the singular value decomposition calculation because of delays in the influx of contrast agents between the arterial and tissue voxels.
Although the calculation of the delay is a matter of debate, diagnostic delays may occur at any point during disease progression and can be divided into pre-symptomatic delays, patient delays, primary care delays, referral delays, and secondary care delays.
