To avoid the difficulties in calculating average temperatures, climatologists Timothy Osborn and Keith Briffa of the University of East Anglia in the U.K. took proxy data from 14 locations in the Northern Hemisphere that spanned 800 and 1995.
After calibration of the FE model, the influences of important parameters on the temperature field of the composite columns are investigated and a unified formula for calculating average temperatures of the columns' cross-section is obtained.
