They have camped on a desolate patch of New Mexico desert land called Cabinetlandia, owned by the art magazine Cabinet, wedged between an active rail line and screaming traffic on Interstate 10, where there is little more in the way of amenities than a mailbox and a filing-cabinet community "library" embedded in a concrete-and-soil wall.
Ms Blears entered Parliament as MP for Salford in 1997, served as a minister in the Department of Health and Home Office and as chair of the Labour Party under Tony Blair between 2001 and 2007, before joining Gordon Brown's cabinet as communities and local government secretary from 2007 to 2009.
But Councillor Chris Best, the cabinet member for community services at Lewisham Council, said seven "hub" libraries and three community libraries would remain after the others shut on 28 May.

Kay Hammond, Surrey County Council's cabinet member for community safety, said: "It may be tempting to answer a call or check your Facebook while driving, but it is a huge distraction and the consequences can be devastating.
Helyn Clack, Surrey county council's cabinet member for community services and the 2012 Games, said: "Libraries are undergoing a digital revolution and they have become more than a place to simply borrow books.
Rodwell deputy Saima Ashraf, who is also the council's cabinet member for community leadership and engagement, called it "a win-win for our council, taxpayers, residents and Generation Rent".
Abdul Hai, the council's cabinet member for community safety, said: "We know how popular Camden is as a destination for nightlife and entertainment and we will make sure that eating and drinking in Camden continues to be an enjoyable and safe experience by working proactively with our food business to help them get it right for their customers".
"The most terrifying questions I ever take are from kids in school rooms, or sometimes at community cabinet where you get no-inhibitions style questions: what do you earn, do they give you pyjamas if you fly first class... those sorts of questions".
Kay Hammond, Surrey County Council's cabinet member for community safety, said: "People enjoy painting their faces to show their support for England during the World Cup but we want to make sure they are aware of any potential issues regarding this product".
But Mr Cargill, cabinet member for community safety at Halton Borough Council, admits Runcorn has had its problems.
