The objective of this study was to compare a protocol that uses WB-MSCT as the first and only diagnostic tool to a protocol that uses conventional radiographs prior to WB-MSCT regarding a) duration of the initial treatment phase in the resuscitation room, b) length of stay in the intensive care unit (ICU), c) ventilation days, d) length of hospital stay, and e) mortality.
The Ministerial Decree of 3 March 1999 [ 4] elaborates these services, considering the following benefits: (a) oxygen therapy at home, (b) mechanical ventilation at home, (c) ventilation treatment of the sleep apnea symptoms, and (d) aerosol therapy.
The MV of preterm infants with RDS contains many modes, including assist/control (A/C) ventilation [ 10], high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) [ 7], volume controlled (V-C) ventilation [ 11], and volume-guaranteed (VG) ventilation [ 12].
Compared with the SIMV + PSV ventilation mode, the TCPL, HFOV, SIMV + VG, and V-C ventilation modes are associated with lower mortality.
VG and V-C ventilation are modes of volume-targeted ventilation that can ensure a constant target volume delivery via automatic adjustment of the peak inspiratory pressure from breath to breath on the basis of changes in pulmonary compliance (such as auto-weaning) [ 42, 43].
Mechanical ventilation (Servo 900 C ventilator; Siemens-Elema, Solna, Sweden) was begun with the following settings: tidal volume of 10 mL/kg, respiratory rate of 12 to 16 breaths/minute, positive end-expiratory pressure of 5 cm H2O, an inspired oxygen fraction (FiO2) of 1, inspiratory time to expiratory time ratio of 1 2 and a square-wave pattern.
As described in 'the surviving sepsis guidelines', many therapeutic interventions, such as early goal-directed resuscitation, low dose intravenous steroids, strict glucose control, recombinant activated protein C and ventilation according to ARDS- net criteria are critical to survival.

An additional 28 animals were treated with saline (n = 14) and elastase (n = 14) using the same protocol previously described and randomized according to ventilator strategy: pressure-controlled ventilation (C-PCV and E-PCV, n = 7/each) or pressure-support ventilation (C-PSV and E-PSV, n = 7/each).
