The word 'bystanders' is correct and commonly used in written English.
It refers to individuals who are present at an event or situation but are not directly involved in it. Example: The police urged the bystanders to move away from the accident scene and allow the paramedics to attend to the injured individuals. In this example, the word 'bystanders' is used to describe the people who are watching the accident but are not actively participating in it.
