On the other hand, Lemos et al. (2005) [23] argued that more than 96% of genes were subject to stabilizing selection in primates, rodents, and Drosophila lineages by using the mutation-drift equilibrium model [27] [29] in which the variance in expression levels of a given gene among species was scaled by the divergence time.
The actual numbers in terms of content of predicted long disorder decreased from ∼18% for the native to ∼9% for the final mutant by using the background mutation protocol (Fig. 3C, green).
We have also calculated the age estimates for all M branches (Fig. 1) both by using the estimated mutation calibration rate of Mishmar et al. By using the mtDNA point mutation detection system of Series A (29 mutations) and Series B (32 mutations), we screened a total of 3103 mutant sites in 107 DNA samples for Series A and 13,101 mutant sites in 397 DNA samples for Series B. We succeeded in determining 99.4% (Series A) and 99.6% (Series B) of the targeted mutant sites by use of the system.
