The third approach, which is used in this work, is to run the detailed model using specific combinations of factors sampled by experimental design and then fit a proxy response surface to the factor space (Ansari 2016).
These molecules are bound to plasma membrane or intracellular receptors and are interpreted by complex molecular pathways that use specific combinations of a cell or tissue-specific signaling toolkit, and, by eventually converging on transcription factors, they induce changes in gene expression.
