The bill, sponsored by Joseph Caracappa, a Republican county legislator from Selden, asked that the county be reimbursed an unspecified amount by the I.N.S. for the supposed crimes committed by the undocumented workers.
He concluded that the pro-union votes by the undocumented workers ― that is, 17 of the 21 workers who cast ballots, according to the Forward ― may have unfairly "diluted or overridden" the votes by "the legal workers".
"We always, always hire the undocumented workers," he said.
As I understand it, the ITIG proposal is simple: Cater to the undocumented worker by issuing a 10-year, renewable work permit and taxing the employer at five percent of the wage for employing one of these workers.
