Lung resistance (RL) and elastance (EL) were computed by linear regression fitting of recorded signals during mechanical ventilation (tracheal pressure, flow and volume).
All enzymatic activities were determined in triplicate, and the maximum velocity (Vmax), Michaelis constant (KM), and catalytic constant (kcat) were calculated by nonlinear regression fitting of the data to the semi-logarithmic form of the Hill equation using the SigrafW software [ 66].
For statistical analysis, best-fit estimates of the IC50s and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were obtained by nonlinear regression fitting of the sigmoidal dose-response curve for each drug across all experiments after normalization using control well fluorescent signals.

The local slope of the phase retardation was calculated by the linear-regression fitting method at two regions of 100-200 µm and 200-300 µm from the skin surface, which correspond to the papillary dermis and reticular dermis regions.
