Aberrant methylation can cause various syndromes [ 9- 14] and contribute to tumorigenesis by decreasing activity of tumor suppressor genes [ 15], activating proto-oncogenes [ 16], or overall methylation imbalance [ 17] (reviewed in [ 18]).
