Randomisation is by computer allocation at the Health Services Research Unit, University of Aberdeen.
A heterogeneous mix of 300 critically ill patients were randomized, by concealed computer allocation, to either nurse-directed glycemic control (Nurse-C) or algorithm-guided glycemic control (LOGIC-C).
Patient registration and randomization were performed by computer-generated allocation at a web-based data center (Internet Data and Information Center for Medical Research) administered by UMIN.
Single cycle, 6 day packs will be prepared, with random allocation of the order of the medicines determined by computer, individually numbered and allocated to patients consecutively.
Randomization was done by computer-generated allocation using sealed, opaque envelopes.
Forty out of 99 patients scheduled for elective cystectomy were randomized to receive the recommended maximum volume (25 mL/kg) of either 6 % Dextran 70 (Macrodex®, Meda AB, Solna, Sweden) or LR by computer-generated allocation sequence (Fig. 1).
At this point the parents were randomly assigned by computer-generated allocation to receive a five-pound voucher (redeemable at many high street shops) with their mailed questionnaire or not (see Figure 1).
The random allocation sequence, including details of any restrictions was produced by Computer Generated Masked Allocation Schedule, Blocking Factor: 4. The allocation sequence was generated by the Pharmaceutical Research and Development Labeling System , Merck & Co. USA.
The random allocation sequence is generated by computer and stratified according to baseline nutritional status (well nourished versus moderate or suspected malnutrition).
Allocation was made using a random number list using a generated by computer, and concealing the result of each randomisation into numbered, sealed, opaque envelopes.
