"Streetview [the 1 10,000 maps] has its uses for some of our work, but this stymies us in terms of using other businesses' mapping in rural areas for putting routes online".

Yale & Towne, originally a lock manufacturing company, put Stamford, Conn., on the business map in the 1840's and was a major economic presence for over 100 years.
Black-controlled firms now account for 6% of the value of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), up from 1% three years ago, according to BusinessMap, a consultancy (see chart).
New entrants would be able to integrate those markets with their international routes, something that could put many smaller American cities on the global business map.
BusinessMap, a consultancy, says last year saw a record $5.8 billion inflow; for this January alone it has counted another $8 billion (promised, not yet delivered).The government's advisers have identified 140 regulations that suffocate small businesses.
"South African firms have taken advantage of opportunities in Africa much more quickly than their American and European counterparts," said Reg Rumney of Business Map, a consulting firm in Johannesburg that produces an annual survey of foreign investment in southern Africa.
According to BusinessMap, a think-tank, the black-controlled share of the equity quoted on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange has actually dropped to barely 2%, thanks to poor performance and delistings.
