Three spectral indices specifically designed for burned area identification have been used: the Burned Area Index (BAI), the Burned Area Index adapted to MODIS bands (BAIM), and the Normalized Burn Ratio (NBR).
The procedure quantifies the bias in burned area estimation present in the low spatial resolution burned area map.
Burned area was even more sensitive to FWI since 97% of total burned area occurred during weeks with mean FWI values ≥ 90.
