According to Haussermann, the Luminor was initially "built as a diver's watch for the Italian navy but in recent times it made bulky watches popular, even for women.
They've arrived as oversized, bulky watches too large for little wrists, and some have even been designed so insecurely, that it would be safer to not use them at all.
"They are still relatively bulky in watch terms and you still have issues with recharging, which is an alien concept to people with watches," said Chris Green, an analyst at the consultants Davies Murphy Group.
"Hurry up and leave," said Barry Kaye, a heavy-set insurance salesman who wore a bulky gold watch.
Regulators remained in production until after the First World War but were progressively abandoned in favor of less bulky pocket watches and the more practical wristwatch, he added.
Still, the Gear is hardly the sleekest thing you'll see on store shelves — its aesthetics have more in common with those bulky sports watches than something you'd wear to a nice dinner, a sense of style that only gets reinforced by the built-in pedometer and readily available fitness apps (but more on them later).
The GENEActiv was also reported as a least preferred sensor due to its appearance (i.e., bulky, looks like watch but doesn't function like a watch), lack of comfort and lack of ease of use.
Rather than use a large display that would make the watch bulky, Timex has opted to scroll messages across the screen, and has a setting that controls the speed of the scrolling.
"In the early days we dreamt of creating a great smartwatch but could not agree between ourselves whether it should have gesture control features (we loved the idea of MYO device and Kreyos smartwatch), or sensors targeted to health & sports tracking," says Vasylechko. "There were too many great things we could not embed inside at once without making the watch bulky.
