But the spread of the company's operations offers a buffer, said the chief executive, Paul Anderson.
"There is no buffer," said Herman Edwards, a former Jets and Chiefs coach.
Buffer says one of its core values is transparency, from workflows to wages, which are calculated according to a set formula.

"A lot of people are taking the very old-fashioned belief that North Korea is a strategic buffer," said Jia Qingguo, a professor at Peking University's School of International Studies who is also proponent of a new policy toward North Korea.
"It was a wonderful buffer," says Chase.
"We had over 2,000 people sign up," Buffer says, adding that another 1,000 new customers have signed up today.
Meanwhile, Buffer says it has now amassed 300,000 users — though only 5,000 are paying customers — and is seeing 20% month-on-month growth.
Buffer says that it curates the content on the app itself, and it's confirmed to me that it's working on an algorithm to help that along.
And while not all of those are paying customers, Buffer says it's now seeing more than $1.5 million in annual revenue.
