Positive brokerage notes helped blue chips, with Boeing, Walt Disney and Coca-Cola ranking among the Dow's top gainers.
David Wong, semiconductor analyst at Needham & Company, a New York-based brokerage, notes that this is a very crowded space with multiple players, and a shakeout is the next obvious step.
Stephen Banker, a managing principal for Newmark & Company, a real estate brokerage, noted White Plains has several advantages over locations in Long Island or New Jersey.
Dan Scovel, semiconductor analyst at Fahnestock & Co., a New York-based brokerage, noted that S3 prenegotiated with both IBM and Number Nine to transfer IBM's business to S3.
The brokerage also noted a 75 percent jump in sales above $10 million in the quarter.
"The bank is managed very well," said Ronit Goodman, an analyst at Nessuah Zannex Securities, an Israeli brokerage firm, noting that operating expenses fell 10.5percentt in the most recent quarter.
"I've heard people say it's like living on a cruise ship, or South Beach on the Hudson," said Scott Waldman, the president of Hovnanian's brokerage division, noting that the building holds zumba and yoga classes, movie nights and other activities that have brought homeowners together.
The brokerage also noted a potential DRAM oversupply in the second quarter.
"Government support on clean energy and natural gas reform will create a booming cycle for clean energy and gas operators," emerging markets brokerage CLSA noted in a report this month.
"It's been a lot of high-income jobs, and couple that with not building enough new housing, and that's where you see a lot of rising costs," explained Taylor Marr, senior economist at online real-estate brokerage Redfin.com, noting that most of the growth was in the tech sector.
But Michele Kleier, a president of the real estate brokerage Gumley Haft Kleier, noted that both apartments were walk-ups and thus more affordable.
