Today the Southern District Court of NY heard the oral argumentsfrom Fox, ABC, Univision and a handful of other cable broadcast providers who wish to see streaming network TV startup Aereo's business shut down.
TiVo announced Friday that a federal district court granted the company's motion and ordered direct broadcast satellite provider EchoStar Communications, which runs the Dish Network, to stop selling and using certain digital video recorders.
"We believe that Comcast's large scale does bring it opportunities in controlling programming costs, leveraging best practices and developing a profitable ad platform," Goldman said, adding that the company's industry-leading free cash flow provides the financial flexibility to compete aggressively against both direct broadcast satellite providers and telecoms.

"On the one hand, the direct broadcast satellite providers complain about interference and technical impossibility, and on the other, they seek permission to provide the service themselves," said Gene Kimmelman, co-director of the Washington office of Consumers Union.
But now the chairman claims the tentative $200 million deal would stunt competition among broadcast satellite providers.
Among them: a bill that allows digital broadcast satellite providers to continue to import network signals to rural areas.
The Supremes' decision has been hailed by the National Association of Broadcasters, which feared that an EchoStar victory might have exposed local stations to the danger of being bypassed by their local direct-broadcast satellite provider.
At this point, it seems inevitable, it's probably just a matter of working out terms that are amenable to everyone – and maybe making sure there are as few ruffled feathers as possible among traditional broadcast network providers.
As an example, John McGarvey, resource manager at California-based DirecTV, a direct broadcast satellite service provider and broadcaster, used TrackVia's cloud-based development platform to build an application that keeps track of the company's many contractors.
