This includes stone pillar-gates, brick tomb chambers, rammed-earth city walls, rammed-earth and brick beacon towers, rammed-earth sections of the Great Wall, rammed-earth platforms where elevated halls once stood, and two rammed-earth castles in Gansu.
Seneb was buried in a mastaba - a flat-roofed brick tomb – located in the West Field of the Giza Necropolis near modern Cairo, where a large complex of ancient Egyptian royal tombs and mortuary structures was built, including the Great Pyramid.
As his convoy disappeared into the dusk, it passed under the village's dominant feature: the red-brick tomb of Hazrat Khalid Walid, a 13th century saint from the moderate Sufi strain of Islam, who was famed for his sense of tolerance.
Two notable sites of antiquity are Abydos, with monuments of Old, Middle, and New Kingdom Egypt; and Bayt Khallāf, near Sūhāj town, the site of a mastaba (mud-brick tomb) probably of King Djoser (3rd dynasty; c. 2650 c. 2575 bce).
The mud-brick tombs were uncovered last week near the Giza pyramids, stretching beyond a burial site first found in the 1990s and dating to the 4th dynasty (2575BC to 2467BC), on the fringes of the present-day capital, Cairo.
The earliest remains at Ṣaqqārah are those in the early dynastic cemetery at the northernmost end of the site, where large mud-brick tombs, or mastabas, have been found that date to the very beginning of Egyptian history.
Many of the mud-brick tombs contained pottery and other funeral items, mission head Dr Irene Foster said.
