Given the heightened vulnerability to carcinogens in cigarette smoke during breast development, there is a need to inform adolescent girls of their potential risk.
Although estrogen/estrogen receptor α (ERα -dependent cellular proliferation signaling is widely known to promote breast cancer development, there is growing evidence for an ERα-independent mechanism promoting estrogen-induced breast cancer development (9).
