Parelaphostrongylus tenuis (brainworm or meningeal worm) is a parasitic nematode known to affect the spinal cord and brain tissue of elk and other species, leading to death.
Larvae were regarded as those of the brainworm, Elaphostrongylus rangiferi, if they were of the typical size (0.3 0.4 mm) and had the characteristic dorsal spine over the tail.
