The FDG study was performed using a different scanner (Gemini TF instead of Gemini GXL), with a higher spatial resolution and smaller voxels for the brain acquisition protocol.
Each whole brain acquisition consisted of 32 oblique slices of thickness 4 mm, with a 0.5-mm slice gap, positioned parallel to the hippocampus and covering the entire brain.
A multiband 2 mm isotropic echo-planar imaging (EPI) acquisition (TR/TE = 1300/40 ms, FOV = 212 × 212 mm, bandwidth = 1814 Hz/Px, multi-band acceleration factor 6, voxel dimension = 2 mm isotropic, whole brain, acquisition time = 6 42 min for a total of 300 vol) (Feinberg et al., 2010; Moeller et al., 2010) was performed before and immediately after tDCS.

Functional images were acquired with a single-shot T2*-weighted gradient echo EPI pulse sequence (TR, 3000 ms; TE, 50 ms; FOV, 256 mm; matrix size, 64 × 64; in-plane resolution, 2 × 2 mm; 300 whole brain acquisitions per run).
Each run consisted of 156 whole brain acquisitions (32 oblique axial slices, 3-mm-thick, 0.3-mm gap between slices, descending interleaved slice acquisition) acquired in a plane parallel to the line between the anterior and posterior commissures on the sagittal scout images.
Using a novel approach, we acquire multi-channel MRI head coil array data and then apply inverse reconstruction methods to obtain volumetric fMRI estimates of blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD) contrast at unprecedented whole-brain acquisition rates of 100 ms.
In addition to the 19 subjects included in the analysis, two were excluded for excessive head motion (i.e., greater than 2 mm from one whole-brain acquisition to the next) and two more were excluded for not complying with experimental instructions.
The time repetition (TR) was 2.34 s and the time echo (TE) 40 ms, with whole-brain acquisition.
To provide an anatomical framework for analysis of the fMRI images, we obtained high-resolution anatomical images using a gradient-echo EPI imaging sequence (TR = 3000 ms; TE = 50 ms; matrix: 64 × 64), which created transversal whole-brain acquisitions (26 slices, 4 mm slice thickness, 0 mm interslice gap).
The brain scan acquisition time was 20 min.
Simultaneous brain PET/MR acquisition was performed using an integrated PET/MRI system (Siemens mMR Biograph, Erlangen, Germany, software version VB18P).
