The combined assemblies had an average contig length of 500 bp and contained a substantial number of large contigs (Fig. 3).
The first exon (75 bp) of rps3 has been lost, and the much larger second exon (1773 bp) exhibits a substantial 3' extension before the first in-frame stop codon relative to other angiosperms.
Almost three thousand contigs in our dataset exceeded 1,000 bp in length, with the longest contig reaching nearly 14,000 bp, again a substantial improvement in comparison to most studies performed with GS20 and FLX technology.
