Along with human traffic, the house mouse subspecies were able to invade also oceanic islands, including sub-Antarctic islands without human settlements [ 6, 7].
Both subspecies are highly infectious, but only type A strains are able to cause lethal infections in humans [2].
What has all but extinguished both subspecies is hunting by man & the destruction by man of the trees on which they fed.
Both subspecies are nearly identical in external appearance.
Both subspecies are found in qualitatively similar open tropical savannah habitats across their entire range.
Both subspecies are morphologically the most similar of the series [ 26].
Even with such cases of introgression between subspecies, we were able to identify significant differences in VR variation depending on the nature of their ligand.
By comparing the same loci and their flanking genomic regions between the two subspecies, we were able to deduce the mechanism of DSB repair (Hazkani-Covo and Covo 2008).

By classifying SNP alleles according to subspecies origin, we were able, in many cases, to estimate which QTL allele was ancestral and which allele was derived and their effect on traits.
