Heterozygosity ratios (Ln RH ratios) were calculated for both groups of populations by comparing data between generations 3 and 14 as well as between generations 14 and 40.
In both groups of populations we see the contributions of two ancestral populations (pale yellow and pale blue), with some admixture of a third component (red).
There was a significant decline in allele number across generations in both groups of populations (AR: F2,18 = 27.874, p < 0.00001; TW: F2,18 = 20.956, p < 0.0001; bifactorial mixed ANOVA).
We found no association between the initial genetic variability in molecular markers – which was similar in both groups of populations – and the subsequent phenotypic evolutionary response to the laboratory environment – with a higher adaptive rate for TW relative to AR populations, particularly in the first 14 generations [see 8].

For the microsatellite data, we obtained significant deviations from neutral expectations at locus dsub14 for both groups of AR and TW populations after 14 generations of laboratory adaptation.
The goals of the present study are to (1) compare HRQOL using CSF-36 in patients with chronic gastritis and peptic ulcers, (2) compare HRQOL between both groups of patients and population norms, (3) determine the influence factors of HRQOL in these populations, and (4) compare HRQOL change over time and explore the factors that influence HRQOL differences after treatment.
Between the screening visit and the end of the study, A1C levels fell significantly in both groups of the FAS population (PRT −1.14 ± 1.21%, P < 0.001; CSII 0.57 ± 0.91%, P < 0.001), and the difference in favor of the PRT group compared with the CSII group was statistically significant (P = 0.006).
Using either method, effective population size estimates for the first period of laboratory adaptation were significantly lower than those obtained for the second period for both TW and AR groups of populations (t-tests using as data points the √Ne estimates of the three replicate populations; p < 0.05 for all estimates; see Table 4).
This finding is partially at odd with our previous published data [ 12], which were, however, obtained in a cohort of women, while the male gender was largely prevalent in both groups of the present study population.
A well-defined population was selected for this study, namely patients with a confirmed diagnosis leading to emergency admission, so as to ensure relatively homogeneous groups of populations of both men and women in terms of indication for interventional procedures.
In general, populations are statistically differentiated both at mtDNA and Y-chromosome markers in all the analyses, whereas differently defined groups of populations are never so.
