Children exposed in utero to antidepressants had a higher prevalence of low birthweight (3.7% vs 2.1%), low Apgar score (seven or under) at 5 min (2.6% vs 1.2%) and were born prematurely more often (15.4% vs 8.6%) than unexposed children born by never users (table 2).
Our analysis demonstrates that adjustment for confounders significantly alters the month of birth effects in MS and confirms the concerns expressed by Fiddes et al. 4 However, even after adjustments, MS patients in Norway appear to be born disproportionally more often in April than would be expected by chance, thus indicating that there may be a real month of birth effect in MS. None declared.
We observe that males born in 1959 more often complete tertiary education, especially university education, than males born in the adjacent years (columns (2), (3) and (4)).
