The other is the border of the ring canal, an intercellular cytoplasmic bridge connecting germline cells which has been most intensively studied in Drosophila.
The host population of such a ring area is already well immunised before first infections will reach the inner border of the ring – hence the outbreak is actually contained.
The growing number of infections close to the baited area challenges the ring (Fig. 7b; olive line) and, eventually, infections beyond the outer border of the ring rise with time (Fig. 8b; compare black and olive line).
Incisions were made from the distal wrist flexor crease in line with the radial border of the ring finger, approximately 3 cm in length up to the level of the thumb metacarpophalangeal joint.
