While the activity of the ventral ROI (ventral putamen near the border of nucleus accumbens) correlated with V t) with γ = 0.6 was strongest under the tryptophan depletion condition (Fig. 3A), the activity of the dorsal ROI (body of the caudate nucleus) correlated V t) with γ = 0.99 was strongest under tryptophan loading (Fig. 3B).
The spread of local Fos plumes did not otherwise extend to other structures around the medial shell, including dorsal structures, except that a few microinjections may have penetrated approximately 0.4 mm into the medial border of nucleus accumbens core.
Incidentally, the high frequency of PICs adherent to the borders of the nuclei suggests that the transition through the nuclear membrane is a strong limiting factor during viral replication; an observation also supported by the disproportionate number of nuclear versus cytoplasmic viral particles (1/50 ratio), as similarly reported by others [25].
In each of the five DRN subnuclei (i.e. the dorsal, ventrolateral, ventral, interfascicular and caudal), AgNOR parameters were determined in 40 neurons (20 in each of the two sections) with clearly visible borders of the nucleus and AgNOR areas.
To perform MER in STN-DBS, five MER/macrostimulation needles were placed in an array with a central, lateral, medial, posterior, and an anterior position placed 2 mm apart, to delineate the borders of the nucleus.
The external limits for this dissection were: lateral, the external border of the medial preoptic area and more caudally, the lateral borders of the mammillary nucleus; dorsal, 1.5 mm depth; anterior, the anterior limit of the nucleus of the vertical limb of the diagonal band (bregma + 1.34 mm); and posterior, the posterior limit of the mammillary nucleus (bregma - 3.40 mm).
Injections in the STN covered ~80%% of the nucleus (Fig. 1b), and about 80%% of the tracer injection was confined to the border of the nucleus in each case that was subjected to detailed analysis.
In another case the diffusion of DiI was well-restricted to within the borders of the Red nucleus.
The inferior border of the nucleus accumbens was at the level of the third ventricle and below the lateral ventricles.
Overlay analyses indicated that the majority of DR6 6B) co-localized with p41, although p41 was more dominant at the border of the nucleus.
