Can the poet Olivia Cole and a group of writers and celebrities save the indie bookshop featured in "Notting Hill," by offering to work for free in the store?
Hwaet! 2006 is a series of daily readings based at the Poetry Bookshop that features Gregory Woods, Michael Horowitz and Arjen Duinker.
The Marks family's bookshop was featured in Helene Hanff's popular memoir "84, Charing Cross Road" -- the title taken from the store's address -- an account of her 20 years of witty and sometimes biting correspondence from her New York home with the shop's chief buyer, Frank Doel.
Among its many cultural attractions, Barcelona's unique and varied bookshops don't feature heavily on many visitors' hit lists.
"And I said, 'This must be heaven.' " Poetry of the Mind Readings at the Book Revue, a bookshop in Huntington, usually feature authors of best sellers and celebrities hawking their biographies.
"While there are numerous books featuring diverse characters there seems to be an issue getting them into the hands of the young people who need them – they are often hard to locate in bookshops and don't feature on school reading lists," said Dawson.
Incidental Intelligence: The Mother's Day window display in the Beacon Bookshop, on E. 46th St., featured a number of books "For Mother," among them "Boat Building in Your Own Back Yard".
The award's shortlist is voted for by independent booksellers, with a panel of judges featuring author Emma Healey, White Rose bookshop's Sue Lake and the Guardian's Claire Armitstead picking the winner.

The Festival launched in summer 2011 with a two-day programme curated and presented by well-known writers, illustrators, poets and storytellers, and featuring The Guardian Bookshop alongside a whole host of creative partnerships.
