Body weight (BW), lean body weight (LBW) and body surface area (BSA) computed based on other works [15, 16] were used to study standardised uptake value (SUV) normalisation variations, namely SUVBW (Equation 1), SUVLBW (Equation 2) and SUVBSA (Equation 3).
Twelve healthy, recreationally active males [ mean ± SD): age = 24.1 ± 3 years, height = 1.79 ± 0.06 m, body mass = 76.4 ± 8.4 kg, body surface area 2.0 ± 0.1 m, sum of eight skinfolds 79.1 ± 31.6 mm, maximal oxygen uptake (V ˙ O 2 max ) 56 ± 5 mL·kg−1·min−1, heart rate max 195 ± 9 beats·min−1] volunteered to participate in the study.
Infants have a higher ratio of body surface area to body mass index than older children and adults, which may lead to a higher dermal uptake per kg body weight.
Simplified parameters, e.g., standardized uptake value (SUV), using various normalization factors (body weight (BW), lean body mass (LBM), body surface area (BSA) and body mass index (BMI)), tumor-to-blood ratio (TBr), and tumor-to-muscle ratio (TMr), were calculated from the averaged images of both the 2 h p.i. as well as the 4 h p.i. PET scan.
