Previous reviews have clearly shown important differences between males and females in the quantity, intensity and type of PA, and that, in part, these distinctions could be explained by biological differences and those relating to sociocultural environment and body image.

"Young people tell us they feel enormous pressures today ranging from bullying, the 24/7 online environment and sexual pressures to issues around body image, school stress and family breakdown.
"The relatively low awareness of boys' body image issues amongst parents and teachers, coupled with a culture of boys not discussing their worries, makes it a tough environment for boys to seek support," said Credos director Ms Fraser.
