This is the fertile dialectic of most avant-gardes, and it was in full Hegelian bloom at Studio Rivbea, the Bond Street loft of the saxophonist Sam Rivers and his wife, Bea.
For Danish jazz guitarist Jakob Bro, whose work is based heavily on improvisation, those everyday sounds are allowed to bloom in the studio: "The melodies have to be released to be appealing," he says.
