In many cases, gene blocks are conserved between bacterial species, sometimes as operons, when genes are co-transcribed.
Five synteny blocks are conserved between SSC10p and the distal region of HSA1q (1q31-43) from 186.4 to 243.9 Mb (Fig. 1a, f, Fig. 2).
For example, when compared with Oncidium, a photosynthetic orchid that has a typical plastome gene order, eight collinear blocks are present in E. aphyllum and three blocks are conserved between E. aphyllum and E. roseum (supplementary figs. S2 and S3, Supplementary Material online).
In this study, we identified two types of conserved blocks of genes: (i) blocks that were conserved among all three species (fully conserved blocks) and (ii) blocks that were conserved between two species, but were disrupted in the third species (partially conserved blocks).
For each of the four autosomal arms, we counted blocks that were conserved between only An. gambiae and An.
We identified 730 peptide blocks, averaging 128 residues in length, that were conserved between putative orthologs in these two species and among their closest homologs in Da. pulex, Dr. melanogaster, and P. humanus.
The color blocks are conserved segments of sequences internally free from genome rearrangements, whereas the inverted white peaks within each block are sequence divergence between the reference C. parvum genome and C. hominis genome under analysis.
We observed that if a block on 2R was conserved between two mosquito species it was likely disrupted in the third species.
Interestingly, as indicated in Figure 2, endpoints delineating ancestral Brassicaceae blocks, in this case between A. thaliana chromosomes two (block K) and five (block V), were found to be conserved between at least two of the triplicated copies in both the Brassica A (on linkage groups A02 – contig L, and A09 – contig B) and B genomes [ 45, 46].
These data demonstrate that structural elements required for channel block by these compounds are conserved between mammals and fish.
