The most plausible explanation for the different efficacy of upward versus downward current is the presence of anode block with the upward current.
The BSA iteratively compensates for this effect before continuing with the preceding block by determining the amount by which the block overlaps the subsequent block caused by the current block movement relative to the performed postponement.
