Two tissue cores (2 mm in diameter) were obtained from each selected specimen and were precisely deposited into a recipient paraffin block using a tissue microarray workstation (tissue microarray builder ab1802; Abcam, Cambridge, UK) as described elsewhere [ 28, 29].

Core samples were removed (1.0 mm diameter) from each tumour and rearranged on empty paraffin-blocks using a manual tissue microarray device (BEECHER MTA II; Beecher Instruments, Inc., Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA).
Finally, fluorescence images were captured using a microarray scanner (Axon).
