This creates roughly homogeneous image regions called blobs, which are used for image retrieval, allowing the user to query the database at the blob level instead of the image level.
The blob level is based on a graph-theoretic approach to track blobs proposed in [ 40].
In the blob level, each distinct foreground region (putatively representing a parasite) is represented using its bounding box in the xy-coordinate (image) plane.
We design our tracking approach to consist of three conceptual levels: the segmentation level, the blob level, and the parasite level.

I'd like to see these things under the microscope, too; I'd like to see what increased contrast looks like on a blob-by-blob level.
Specifically, if a parasite is associated with a blob in frame i-1, then it is also associated with all neighbors of that blob in frame i. Recall that the neighbors of each blob are given by the blob bipartite graphs computed at the blobs level.
If you ever need to change what tier your data sits in, Microsoft also today announced the launch of blob-level tiering.
Blob detection, low-level tracking using adaptive filters, high-level tracking based on a fixed pool of histograms and an event management that can detect every collision event and performs occlusion recovery are used to be able to track every object during the time they appear within the scene.
In the following, we describe the blob and parasite levels.
At each gray level, a blob is dissected into connected components of voxels with intensities higher than the gray level.
Its asymptotic complexity is O(nHd+1), where n is the number of blobs, H is the level of refinement, and d is the domain dimension.
