It's not new, nor confined to any one industry - doctors, insurance companies, lawyers...but rather it's a faceless, rampant, rapacious attitude that a little bit of unethical behavior is okay.
It sometimes seems like there's a staffer in the White House whose sole job is to make sure we don't go more than week or two without some comical bit of unethical behavior spilling out into the open.
Obviously if I was coming up with the perfect list of 10 Things... and I wanted to give the impression of being broadly ethical but with a bit of a cheeky and unethical sort of twist, it would make sense to shake the 10 Things up a bit, mix 'n' match the profound with the profane, the global with the local, the trivial with the transcendent.
That seems a bit shady if not totally unethical.
Is this an unethical act?
If that fails, then turn on those parental controls, a tactic that is a bit childish in its obliqueness but not unethical.
If someone is unethical even a little bit, then this behavior can negatively impact their future ethical decision-making.
"They might think 'No one got hurt,' or 'Everyone does it.' The next time, they feel fine about doing something a little bit worse the next time and then commit more severe unethical actions".
We should extend this reasoning a bit and note that it would be silly for modern humans to declare animal eating by pre-modern humans unethical.
Otherwise, totally unethical.
