Tagging a cysteine residue at the terminals not only enhances the binding propensity of the resultant peptide with the silver nanoparticle, but also increases its antimicrobial property against several pathogenic bacterial strains including K. pneumoniae.
When using this coarse distinction, the results presented here fully agree with the earlier conclusions that on average the lipid binding propensity of the 100 N-terminal residues is higher than for the C-terminal tail, with little impact from the disease mutations.
