The increase in spatial resolution and the new definition of the revised BI-RADS lexicon to count multiple bilateral foci as BPE have strongly reduced this category assignment in our clinical practice [20].
There were two bilateral foci of differential activation in the parietal cortex.
In fact, very few areas showed an interaction; activated voxels were largely restricted to bilateral foci in dorsal (d) and ventral (v) regions of the pre-central gyrus [(27 −21 69; −21 −21 72) and (60 −9 24; −54 −12 36) respectively].
The resulting set of regions included large bilateral foci in medial frontal cortex, frontal operculum, lateral PFC, anterior PFC, visual cortex, medial cerebellum, and thalamus, as well as lateralized and/or more circumscribed foci in the precuneus, posterior cingulate cortex, and inferior parietal cortex (Figure 2; Table 2).
Right- and left-lateralized AIT activation foci were only found in 9 and 7 subjects, respectively, and were consequently collapsed in subjects showing bilateral foci (7 out of 9 subjects).
In parietal cortex, an extensive cluster of activation comprised bilateral foci in the intraparietal sulci (IPS) as well as the precuneus, reaching from the lateral cortical surface into the medial wall.
In the lateral frontal cortex, activation comprised bilateral foci in the frontopolar cortex, the DLPFC, the ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (VLPFC, in the left hemisphere comprising the area of Broca), the inferior frontal junction area (IFJ), and the superior frontal sulcus (SFS).
Bilateral donors focus on capacity-building and, at the same time, on disease-specific projects.
