But because Nationstar earns fees from selling homes through its auction site, as well as making new mortgages from winning bidders, that added business may compete with the company's interest in keeping borrowers in their homes.
It would go on to sell for $360,000, and other bidders would add another $205,000 in donations, for a total benefit to the USO – an organisation providing entertainment programming to US soldiers – of $565,000.
"This particular deal might be an anomaly because of its size and limited bidder pool," he added.
Meanwhile Xstrata, also a possible bidder for Riversdale, added 47p to £14.37 after reports that its major shareholder Glencore was planning a £30bn flotation.
Tata rejected offers from firms looking to cherrypick parts of the UK operation, adding that such bidders had been "thanked for their participation in the process but informed that their expressions would not be taken forward currently".
Those close to the company admit the retailer is preparing to appoint Zolfo Cooper to implement a pre-pack administration, with one source adding: "[Previous interested bidders] Debenhams and Edinburgh Woollen Mill are still very much in the picture".
In simultaneous auctions, he added, bidders who lose in one, are often willing to go higher in others.
