Similar to Organ et al. (2007), we suggest that although genome size reduction in reptiles may have occurred before the origin of powered flight in birds and bats, flight nonetheless further reduced genome size in these lineages, leading to further reductions in of intron sizes, likely through biased deletion or ultimately through reduction of cell volume (Johnson 2004).
Although biased deletion of duplicated genes is reported in the literature as part of the diploidization process, defining dominant and sensitive chromosomal blocks (for review, Salse 2012 and Freeling et al. 2012), we describe here the differential evolution of dominant and sensitive blocks derived from ancient and recent polyploidies during grass paleohistory.

Attempts to model the evolution of genome size typically involve a tendency for the mutational process of small insertions and deletions (indels) to be biased towards deletions (deletion bias) that progressively eliminate nonessential portions of the genome.
In S. cerevisiae, indels of less than 50 bp were moderately biased toward deletions (18 deletions vs. eight insertions) across the diploid MA lines (Zhu et al. 2014).
Results from Tim-3/galectin-9 blockade in vitro demonstrated that the effect on HBV-specific CD8+ T cells resulted from Tim-3/galectin-9 interactions in patients with CHB were biased towards deletion instead of inactivation, in line with previous reports.
When we analysed the composition of genes in CNV regions, we made the curious observation that the small number of CORUM genes that overlap a CNV (165 genes in total) are biased towards deletions rather than duplications.
In practice, however, more than 90% of events discovered by these platforms are less than 1 kb, and are biased towards deletions rather than insertions [ 23, 41].
These techniques can be powerful, but are tedious and biased towards deletions owing to typical NGS short inserts and short reads [ 24, 25].
Analyses of non-coding genomic sequences have revealed a mutational process biased toward deletions [ 43, 44], and the present results indicate that similar mutational mechanisms might apply to the protein-coding sequences.
We expected that the mutational events observed in HCT116 cells would reflect errors generated by DNA polymerases, which we have shown here and previously to be biased toward deletions.
A feature of TALEN-induced mutations that has been described in other cell types as well is that they are biased toward deletions, in preference to insertions (Chen et al. 2013; Kim et al. 2013).
