I think it's great, personally — thin-bezel displays means nice multi-monitor setups, more efficient use of space, etc.
Unsurprisingly it had a lot to do with the component Tetris required to fit in a "bezel-less" display.

As you can see from these leaked press shots, first published by TheVerge, even the phone's design language says "Camera," from the huge, almost bezel-free display on the front to the overstated camera sensor on the middle of the Lumia 1020's backside.
Personally, I'd prefer their bezel-less displays with the built-in computers.
The shiny bezel, the retina display, the apps … it was still the old iPad, albeit lighter and with a snazzier makeover.
