When measuring the relationship between response and taxonomic distance, we specified the taxonomic distance between any two organisms using the following numerical scale: 1 = different species, 2 = different genera, 3 = different families, 4 = different orders, 5 = different classes, 6 = different phyla, and 7 = different kingdoms.
