Images consisted of photographs of people, animals, natural and man-made scenes, and objects (Supplementary Fig. 1).
Past fMRI studies investigated coarse-to-fine processing dynamics using nonface stimuli such as scenes and objects.
Understand the difference between scene and summary.
To determine whether this was the case, we performed a correlation analysis examining the relationship between individual AQ scores and category selectivity in face-, scene-, and object-selective regions.
Face-, scene-, and object-selective ROIs were identified at a minimal threshold of P < 0.01 uncorrected (10 contiguous voxels) using the contrasts faces > houses/scenes, scenes > faces, and objects > scrambled objects, respectively.
This involved a set of stimuli being shown to the participants, 33% of which were novel (lures) and the remainder were all the scene pictures, object pictures, and two-word scene and object construction cues used during scanning.
Subjects were shown a set of stimuli, two thirds of which were all the stimuli used during scanning (photographs from the perceive scene/object conditions, and text cues from the scene and object construct conditions), and one-third were lures.
To ensure they understood the task demands for scene and object construction, they then constructed 2 scenes and 2 objects out loud with the experimenter listening to ensure that they were performing the construction tasks correctly.
A consequence of these algorithms is that the whole depth map has been modified, which will severely blur the distance between scene objects in different depth layers.
To do this, it uses the statistical relationship between images (the activation of photoreceptors) and scenes (objects and conditions in the natural world), a relationship encoded in the functional structure of early visual areas.
