To address this question, we measured metacognitive accuracy in patients with lesions to anterior prefrontal cortex (n = 7) in two distinct domains, perception and memory, by assessing the correspondence between objective performance and subjective ratings of performance.
However, recent human psychophysical data reveal dissociations between objective performance and subjective confidence, suggesting a more complex relationship between Type I and Type II distributions (Wilimzig, Tsuchiya, Fahle, Einhauser, & Koch, 2008; see also Busey & Arici, 2009).
