Most, but not all, positions identified as evolving under positive selection in at least one patient corresponded to sites whose amino acid composition was found to be significantly different between the two different sample points in each patient (Table 3 and Table S3).
Different sample points possess different representativeness.
The main aim of determining one way ANOVA is to compare the differences between the different sampling points for each parameter.
There was no significant difference in TDS between the different sampling points (p > 0.05) and were all within acceptable levels (1,000 mg/L) for drinking (WHO 2004a, b).
Replicate test reactors developed thus their own bacterial populations that had their community structures more similar between the different sampling points for the same reactor, than between the different reactors for the same sampling point (Fig. 6a, b).
Thus, we used the Spearman's rank test to assess the correlation of metabolites (untransformed) between the different sampling points.
As expected, statistical analysis revealed significant differences between FW values obtained at different sampling points in each culture, describing a typical growth profile i.e. latent phase, exponential phase and stationary phase.
However, the calculated average pairwise Bray Curtis distances reflecting the dissimilarities in community structures between the four reactors at the different sampling points were not significantly different between T-RFLP and HTS results (Fig. 6c, f).
The pair-wise comparisons between growth rate in filtrates from different sampling points and treatments, and growth rate in unconsumed medium were done using univariate ANOVA for each test species and treatment combination separately, growth rate as a response variable and time as a factor.
The different sampled points of signal resources between s(k) and s(l) (l ≠ k) are statistically independent.
