To explore the association between absolute counts and percentages of B cells in primary HIV infection and throughout the disease progression, 45 HIV-infected MSMs (23 RPs and 22 TPs) who satisfied the criteria were included in our continuing study.
FCM and ATP showed the strongest agreement between absolute counts with a slope of the correlation equal to 0.7, while qPCR seemed to overestimate cell counts by a factor of ten.
There was no correlation between the percentages or absolute counts of Tregs and NK cells.
To control for differences in the absolute counts of radioactivity between replicates, data were first normalized to DMSO (set to 100%) within each replicate, then averaged across three biological replicates.
Support for the theory comes from the study by Hart et al. (2009b), which not only found increased CD3+CD8+ counts in MoM patients but added support for a general depressive effect as these authors also found inverse correlations between cobalt or chromium concentrations and absolute counts of T– and B lymphocytes.

Second, because the selected venues varied in their sizes (ie, in most cases, beaches are larger than parks), it is possible that these differences could have affected the absolute counts of observed smoking between parks and beaches.
Results were controlled for potential artifacts and absolute counts of different MV subtypes were compared between groups by using the Mann-Whitney-U test.
