Between 1978 and 1985, nearly 40,000 germplasms (accessions and breeding lines) were screened for the best drought tolerant germplasm; however, the majority of the top 20 outstanding germplasms were breeding lines (de Datta et al. 1988).
The objectives were to determine quickly which cultivar(s) possesses the best drought tolerance which might be suggested to be used in soybean production and to identify the most drought-sensitive and the most drought-tolerant cultivars from investigated phenotypes for further screening for differentially expressed drought-responsive candidate genes by expression analysis.

ARB 8 and IR55419-04 recorded the highest drought yield index (DYI) and are identified as the best drought-tolerant lines.
This study was conducted to quickly evaluate drought tolerance of thirteen local soybean cultivars for selection of the best drought-tolerant cultivars for further field test.
Metabolite profiling data found that under drought stress, the five best drought-tolerant genotypes tended to have higher levels of abscisic acid (ABA), spermine, trehalose, and fructose in comparison to the five most drought-sensitive genotypes.
In general, the five best drought-tolerant genotypes tended to accumulate higher levels of ABA, spermine, trehalose, and fructose under drought stress than the five most drought-sensitive genotypes (Fig. 5).
Among the 14 metabolites, differences in ABA, spermine, trehalose, and fructose were found between the five best drought-tolerant genotypes and the five most drought-sensitive genotypes (Fig. 5).
In addition, the five best drought-tolerant genotypes tended to accumulate higher levels of ABA, spermine, fructose, and trehalose under drought stress than the five most drought-sensitive genotypes (Fig. 5).
Among all concentrations, 50 mg/L 5-ALA proved to have the best effect under drought stress.
Since SA, strongly reduced H2O2, DHA and MDA content, we suggest evaluation of these biochemical parameters are the best indicators for drought stress tolerance of A. aucheri after SA treatment.
The goodness-of-fit tests as indicated by the CFM showed that copula NN19 in sub-regions III, IV, V, VI and mainland China, NN20 in sub-region I and NN13 in sub-region VII are the best for modeling drought variables.
