As mentioned previously, for the delineation of MAVT, a threshold was applied to the VOITOT, drawn on the CT image and placed on the corresponding PET image, in order to eliminate those pixels in which the values of intensity were below the background level (Figure 1b).
Although most of the images examined here had no cloud over the volcano (June to August is in the middle of the dry season of Java), a few minor cloudy periods, suggested by low T11Mx values being below the background level, can be recognized (Fig. 4c).
Genes having either the average Xn or Ym below the background level were excluded, as the true signal value is uncertain.
The mutation frequency of 0.363×10−4 events/bp is dramatically lower than that observed in the wild-type cells (4.07×10−4 events/bp, [13]), and is even below the background level of our system (0.5×10−4 events/bp, observed in AID-deficient DT40 cells, [23]) (Fig. 2E).
The MUC4 mRNA expression in normal human pancreas was below the background level.
According to this, 3,630 (11.4%) C. gigas probes had a gene expression below the background level in all tissue samples.
This is most likely due to the low expression value of this transcript in the control animals which lies below the background level.
Now, the matching could either tail off to the level of the background level or go below the background level and then increase again as it is the case in our simulation results.
Note that the autofluorescence of collagen (green) is negligible when compared with the strong fluorescence from the secondary antibody; thus, it fell below the background level in the characterization of nestin expression (green).
Regional pollutant concentrations aggregated to the census block group level that exceeded background levels were reduced linearly, whereas we assumed that concentrations at or below the background level would be unaffected by changes in emissions.
